Website with public tenders and the accompanying information (regulations, guidelines, past tenders, legislation, etc.) can get cluttered over the years. Additionally, new applications for users were devolved, while not being considered in the initial design.
The main reason for the redesign was (web) accessibility – designing the site according to WCAG guidelines, especially due to the purpose of the FIHO foundation being accessible to all, especially people with disabilities. According to the employees, a visual refresh of the site and a more user-friendly adaptation for all types of devices was also welcomed.
After meetings with the stakeholders, I analysed the existing site, examined the similar organisations and best practices. All this enabled me to prepare a sitemap and wireframe. Through multiple iterations and meetings, we resolved several concept issues and everyone ended up with a clear understanding of the project. I then developed several proposals for the page navigation, the landing page, and different internal pages that allow for better display of larger volumes of information – I achieved this by incorporating a table of contents and dividing the content into sub-segments.
The basic typography and design are minimalistic in principle, as the site needs to be easily navigable and machine-readable. Drawing from the Foundation’s colours, I created a pastel colour palette that livens up the site (it was previously dominated by green and blue), but is not visually overwhelming. Combined with basic geometric shapes, it enables easier differentiation between the various sections of the site.
As a UX/UI designer, I wrote the design brief, then worked through wireframes and prototypes to reach the final design. Throughout all phases of planning and design, I collaborated with the front-end team to ensure consistent implementation of the design and made necessary adjustments to the concept.
